Almost done! Each new design keeps becoming my new favorite. At first they didn’t see it, but then they let me pull back that retaining wall and create a little space that has become the best place for a teatime moment. The neighbor donated moss for “the nook”, and a chair sized boulder means you’re set for a sit. This is a 1970s Montreat mountain cabin with several 120° walls, so instead of ignoring it, we leaned into it, and made every line and every return of the 50’ or so of linear walls have the same angle. Now those lines sing with the house in harmony. Then there’s an enviable outdoor grill and fireplace with native stone veneer, for the former restauranteur, and a bluestone patio (more pics upon completion). Native plants all around, and she allows me to be an enabler and order “just one more.” (A few non-natives per her request, but she was very coachable. ?) Oh, and- This is a front yard and a side yard, with minimal square footage. Most people don’t see how much can be done, and right up to the property line!
